UCI RULING IS OFFICIAL...
« on: January 16, 2007, 15:46:47 »

You will find enclosed the new regulation concerning the participation in UCI Mountain Bike World Cup events which has been approved by the UCI Management Board on the recommendation of the Mountain Bike Commission and to come into effect on January 1st 2007. The modification will be updated as soon as possible on the UCI website.

Participation in UCI Mountain Bike World Cup events

The conditions of participation in UCI MTB World Cup events are as follows:
Obtaining a minimum of 20 UCI points in the individual UCI MTB classification of
December 31st of the previous year for the format in question (XCO, DHI, 4X)
or
Obtaining, during the current season, a minimum of 20 UCI points in the
reference’s classification* applicable for the qualification in the UCI MTB World
Cup event in which the rider wish to participate

UCI MTB teams and national teams benefit from an extra participation quota and are
allowed to enter, in addition to the riders fulfilling one of the above mentioned
conditions, a certain number of riders according to the details below:
Riders belonging to a UCI MTB team: a maximum of 10 riders per format (XCO,
DHI, 4X) is allowed to start
Riders belonging to a national team (in national outfit): a maximum of 6 riders per
format (XCO, DHI, 4X) is allowed to start

Please note:
This rule does not apply to UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Cup events.

Would certainly liven things up a bit Grin

Does this mean you can enter as long as you are on a UCI team, even if you don't have the required points?

Doesn't it cost a ton of cash to be an official UCI MTB team?
(like about £3/4000 a year)
And you wouldn't affiliate with the UCI if your riders weren't world class anyway.
So it won't change that much will it?

(thats not meant to sound sarcy and know-it-all, I'm just curious)

Say its 4k, that gets 10 riders in...only 400 each for a season...not cheap, but affordable...

yes but if you're a UCI trade team, you get free pits at the WCs, so it does save a shed load of cash.

How is this going to work with BC?
Is it going to be a ‘development’ team?

well yes if BC were being nice, then yes they could register a development team - of riders who currently don't have UCI points. So they could race.  There are plenty of really good riders in this country without 20 points.

its a joke really cos they have changed it without 12 months notice.

We've agreed sponsorship deals with people / companies and riders based on the fact that they would be racing world cups.  All signed sealed and sorted and then this happens.

I might have to be shelling out for a UCI trade team status at this rate.   Sad  but I'm sure its not as much as Trig mentioned.

ha ha, so a loop hole appears.  how do we sign up?

This means I can race Maribor now............... which is a total joke, cos I'm not good enough to do it.  But if thems the rules.  It'd be rude not to go.

Just doing the sums:

1000 Euro's for affiliation
which is about £660

10 riders in a team
Thats £66 per team rider - to be allowed entry into any WC

Hah!  Thats pretty funny, but I think Oggy's probably right (Kill-Joy!)

Not sure how that would work though? British Cycling don't enter riders from UCI teams. You have to enter youself online.

That's true. But only once at the start of the year on application to UCI, not before every round.
