hope mono m4 adjustment - help!
« on: September 02, 2010, 10:36:26 AM »
Hi, i got a bike and it came with mono m4s. I've not used hope brakes since the original C2s. I put new pads in but they are rubbing on the disc. Is there an easy way to adjust them so they fit further out? also one of the pistons seems a bit sticky - are there any giudes around for servicing the brakes?

cheers

I always find that when fitting new pads, it's best to take the top off the master cylinder and push the pistons right back into the caliper, refit the master cylinder top, and fit the new pads.....take care cos you will push fluid out of the lever

when you put it all back together a few pumps on the lever will set the pads.....as long as your caliper is aligned ok

hope that helps

thanks for that. i tried that on the hardtail when i put the pads in but i think the sticky piston didn't help matters. i'll give it another shot - wasn't really sure about it when i tried before, was worried i might introduce some air into the system.

As said there is no pad contact adjustment on the m4's. To avoid getting air trapped in the system could get a new diaphram, this is meant to help but in the end i gave up and sold mine on the basis they needed a proper service from hope.

I went to Hope with  one of my M4s and the techy dude told me to use SILICON grease (get it from a plumbers) to lightly lube the sides of the pistons, stops them sticking.
