NDH rd 3
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:06:43 PM »
Thanks to everyone who attended NDH rd3 at Alwinton.
Just thought we put a quick statement together following the weekend.
We decided early in the track build to include as many of the hills natural features making a truly national level track.  We planned the track based on our experience of building the original Kidland track and we presumed riders expected this level of technically.
Feedback from the weekend was that the track was too extreme for many riders.  Rain on Sunday obviously increased the difficulty level.
Based on this feedback from riders over the weekend we plan to make improvements to the difficult areas of the track. This should make the track ride-able to all whilst still retaining the technical features for the more experienced.
Two uplift weekends are planned before the next race to test the new layout and bed in the updated track.  For those of you unsure of racing on the Alwinton track this will provide you with an unpressurised environment in which to gain further practise.
These uplift weekends will be by prior appointment with forest access passes to be posted to you in advance of the event.
On another note THANKYOU for keeping the camping and parking areas really clean and tidy.
NDH hope that those of you that found the route too challenging will give us another chance with our planned updates.
Below is a list of this years planned uplift dates.
24/25 July  Recreational uplift days

7/8   August Recreational uplift days

21/22 August Race weekend

4/5 September Recreational uplift days

2/3 October Recreational uplift days

9/10 October Recreational uplift days

I went home after the red flag and in the end couldn't be bothered driving all the way back again for the Sunday  :-[, not because I thought the track was too tough, I found it a lot of fun but quite unpredictable. hope you don't mind me saying but during (the short) practice session I thought the track changed far too much each run, which I must say I found pretty surprising with only 50 or 60 riders and perfect riding conditions - I think many will agree the track layout is good as it is, it simply could have done with being ridden/bedded in more before the event and some firmer foundations put in to hold up a few bits (mainly outside corners) better.

here's a headcam I found of Huggy showing how it should have been ridden during practice.

good luck with the next one.

Ps. Hope the guy that crashed off the bridge was ok?

Preparation work to the track was limited due too only getting the full permission in the middle of may which was hampered by a neighbouring land owner. We had hoped to get some bedding in days prior to the race but again these where hampered ended up being small scale.  I rode the track all weekend and must say that yes there was one left hand corner in the open before heading back into the trees which caused problem to many riders but it was not unridable and most riders had a good stab at it.
We hope to set out a couple of new lines to ensure all ability of riders can make it down as well as some uplift days to get the routes bedded in, prior to the next race.
I think most of you would agree that the hill has good potential and we are still learning.
I was told the lad who was airlifted turned out to be tissue or muscle damage to the back which was a relief that it was not more serious, it was our first test and thanks for everyone who got him down the hill.

Cheers to all the guys and gals who ran the weekend. yeah it was a pretty full on course but we defo need a bit of challenge from time to time. you can be pretty sure no one will have gone home thinking the course was boring.

i'm looking forward to the uplift days and the venue getting a bit more established.

Hah?  Really?  I was only joking.  Presume you're not still tooling about in that ambulance? :)

Nah, no SDAs for me.  Not this year anyway.
