avid elixcir r help!!
« on: March 13, 2010, 01:45:55 PM »
Hi,
I have brought some second hand elixcirs - they have been bled and fitted.  The issue I am having is the bite point of the brake, its over 50 percent of the way in. I have tried adjusting the lever reach which helps a bit but the bite is still too far into the lever movement for my liking,  any advice guys??

Thanks,
Tim

I am sure there are better ways of doing it, but a quick fix is to take the wheel off and squeeze the brake lever slightly so the calipers come out a bit more. Mind you, dont squeeze too much....

Should make the bite point a little bit sooner into the lever travel, but as i said, im sure there is a proper way of doing it?

sounds like a lack of fluid in the system, just bleed them and top them up with a bit more fluid and you should some instant power. In the top models you do not need to do this as you have the pad reach adjuster

Tried that mate, lost all power after 5 good pulls on the front lever. I think it may be a piston seal now :o(

If it's a piston seal you'll see fluid somewhere.

Did you watch the SRAM HB video on youtube for bleeding?

It's for Juicy brakes but may also work for Elixcir.

When I bleed my Ultimate's according to the service manual they felt like poop.

When I followed HB's instructions in the video they were money.
