Hey guys,
Anyone ever changed the full bearing set on a Meta 5? If so how easy/hard was it?

Cheers
Al

I have in fact done this once on a meta, wasnt too bad. Similar to most frames, the right tools and a vice make it a lot easier.

What tools would you suggest I need? I've got access to a vice so half way there!

Well you can get dedicated bearing press tool but most time you can get away with a socket and a vice. To get the bearings out you realy want a bearing puller, but you can get them with a hammer it not pretty though.

Hi, not done the change yet. I ended up replacing the bottom shock mount and axle (with a heavy duty one from tf tuned) and it got rid of all the play in the back end. Seems that was the problem. Will no doubt do the main bearings soon tho so i'll keep you posted. Are you thinking of doing yours?

You are better off using the correct tools. Pressing bearings in on just the outer or inner shell could result in possible damage to the ball. Even pressure on both inner and outer is the recommended way to install them. Also never hammer always press!!

That's noted, I'll be having a good look at the frame and how they come out before I commit to doing it, may chicken out and put it into a shop!

Hey mate.
I have a commy in just now I was going to teach you how to change them.
I always press mine in with a vice and remove them with some tools I've had made up. The tricky part is getting the axle out as commencal use a sealing compound.
If you take your back shock off and run the back end gently through it's travel you can tell the condition of the bearings. I agree with bren you need to make sure you don't damage the bearing always press them back in using the old bearings as they're the exact same size.
I have custom modified performance bearings for the commies I can sell you a kit at a discount and teach you how to install the bearings as well.
Anyone else need a hand servicing their frames let me know.

here's how to check your bearings.
