SDA DH Rd 1, Pitfichie

The weekend of the 24th – 25th of April saw the first round of the 2010 Scottish Downhill Association race at Pitfichie, North of the Granite City, Aberdeen. The track lives up to the name of the nearby city, with the majority of the track made from slabs of Granite. The track was mostly the same layout as previous years with some minor additional sections added for some variation, which by the end of practise had worn in nicely. Wet […]

Halo BDS Rd 1 Rheola, Wales

The UK season finally got officially under-way this past weekend in South Wales. Rheola Forest, has hosted so many races it’s a bit of legend in these parts, mostly due to the fact that Jason Carpenter and his Dragon Downhill Series used this venue so many times you could almost call it the Welsh Innerleithen. This time however, it was the re-branded National Points Series for 2010…The Halo British Downhill Series. With sponsors tripping over themselves to get involved, it […]

Northern Downhill Round 1 Kidland Forest

This time last year I was stressed, ran ragged as the co organiser of Northern Downhill. This year Carl will be race series organiser and I will be a lot more relaxed on the bike. Snow came to Northumberland mid December and only thawed from the valley 3 weeks ago, to Carl’s relief! How ever when the snow returned early in the week we started praying for the thaw. Our prayers where answered for a short while with the warmer […]

NPS 4X Rd 1 – UKBikepark

This Easter Sunday, devout Christians got dressed up in their Sunday best, headed down to the Church and celebrated the Resurrection. The disciples of 4x however, donned waterproofs, aimed the car in the direction of UKbikepark and got excited about the 2010 season. The first time this venue was used for an NPS, it rained. The second time, it didn’t. This time things were definitely soggy, but the rain, on race day at least, stayed away. However, a serious amount […]

Alpine Bikes Winter Series Rd 3, Innerleithen

After the frost cancelling the first round and the second one almost going the same way, wow what a difference this weekend, it was like spring had sprung. There was still evidence of winter weather when you got to the top of the hill where the snow was still lying at the start hut, but that wasn’t a problem. Track this weekend was the good old Cresta from the start, still a bit claggy and wet in places down to […]

In search of the Holy Grail?

The Holy Grail is a thing of legend, drinking from its hallowed depths is said to bring you eternal life…but what if you found a Cup that could do the same, well at least enhance it for a few minutes? Could it be the Caersws Cup? Caersws, for those who don’t know is located in the mid Welsh borders…it easily accessible from almost anywhere and will host not only Naked Racings Caersws Cup but also the British Downhill Series later […]

Alpine Bikes Winter Series Rd 2, Innerleithen

Well after the cancellation of the first round it was good to see rd2 take place, even if the coarse was probably slippier than it was for the first round. The 2010 Alpine Bikes Winter series will go down as one of the wintriest (is that a word) on record I’d say. It was looking good on Saturday the track was cutting up good and there was plenty grip, almost muddy in places. Top section above the fire road was […]

Alpine Bikes Winter Series Rd 1, Innerleithen

This weekend was to see the first round of the Alpine Bikes Winter Series but due to the weather, the frost that is, and not the huge amounts of snow that was still around a week ago, still piled high in the car park courtesy of the council. This year also saw Mike Marsden from Borderline Events come on board with I-Cycles Steve Deas, Mike was the man to organise things and Steve was to use his legendary track building […]

MADE – The Premiere

Friday 13th, an unlucky day for some but not Callum Swift- the date for our first look at his new film- chartering the exploits of riders from all around the globe during this season. Due to a work commitment I was stuck listening to the Vice Chancellor of Aston University harp on about global warming and CO2 emissions as the clock ticked to 9pm – I am afraid to say I arrived as the film had just begun (hence lack […]

Air Maiden – For the Ladies who Freeride

It’s a Saturday morning at 9.00 am and although a bit on the cold side, the weather is dry and there’s hardly a breath of wind, so pretty much perfect conditions – a good start indeed.  This was year two of Air Maiden and even though 2008 was a great success it’s always a bit nerve wracking to see if everyone was telling the truth when they said they couldn’t wait to come back again. Well we needn’t have worried, […]
