In further dodgy digi cam video action......Lopes hits the 4 pack and styles it up in the 4X final. Thanks to my man Luke for letting me use his vids.
Graves blows out to end his World title hopes.
4X has just finished with an example of what MTB should always be like.....the crowds were big, there was plenty of beer being drunk, the tunes were pumping and the disco lights and dry ice were going mental.

Despite suffering from a damaged arm Jill Kintner took it from the impressive looking Anneke Beerten.

4X kicks off in half an hour, the disco lights over the finish line are being tested, its going to be nuts. I am off up to enjoy myself and get a few beverages, toyed with the idea of updating the site live but a combination of no internet connection on course and plenty of live streaming of the finals means it is beer o'clock.
But remember, MTBCUT.tv have it all live.

With little in the way of riding going on today there has been plenty opportunities to catch up on the backlog of visual goodness that we have not had a chance to share with you over the last few days. Be sure and check it out!

The sun is shining
The crowds are starting to line the 4X already
The beer is flowing
Good times!
Not much going down today. There was 3 hours of DH practice this morning between 9 and 12, a little bit of drizzle making things damp. Spent most of the morning shooting in the World Cup woods which have escaped the precipitation and are staying dry, it is however a line choice nightmare in there with the top guns and the not so top guns all taking time out to scout lines, there is a lot of them in there and no 2 riders are the same. Hill seems to be finding lines that dont even exist, it is an awesome display of technical riding.

Morning has broken on the first day of gravity action here at the Fort, and you guessed it.......it's raining! Its somewhere between drizzle and proper rain at the moment and the weather forecast is saying it will stay very much like that through the day. Practice started at 9am and runs right through the day, alongside that there is trials semi finals and XC for U23 and Junior women going on. We are currently sitting in a warm tent building up the courage to go out and take photos and speak to people. More later.
Top That! - Watch more free videos
Not much to be said this morning, we are now on site and settled into our new home for the next week, a much larger media tent than previous years and not one but two working wifi connections....what a novelty, means we should actually be able to keep things update. JP is getting wired into the free Red Bull already, I expect him to be spasming from excessive caffeine intake by 2pm. Town is getting busy already with the pub much busier than you would expect for a Monday night in September.
Welcome to the first update in the 2008 World Championships coverage from us at Descent-World. The advance DW party has now reached sunny Fort William, myself and JP will be keeping you up to speed with all the early week goings on at Nevis Range with Allan Millway, Ian Linton and the big man himself (or should that be wee man?) Jon_e joining us later in the week.
We have caught no action so far but random ramblings from the day.......
- No lurking speed cameras on the Glencoe road as yet, a definite plus.
But with less spandex........
The World Cup DH is back on Eurosport!! Tell your friends, your parents, your dog, the more people that watch it the more chance is that they will repeat with the later rounds.

You think your bike will be up and running within days of getting it all together, then you realise that tubeless tyres are not as readily available as normal ones, then because you are a fattie you need to order stiffer springs, and then realise that the super duper custom tuned shock that was setup for a not so fattie needs completely overhauled to work for you, even though it is factory fresh and never used. Cant complain as the deal I got was killer and the condition of the frame was mint (well most of it new).
Soon, very very soon!
After being chuffed with the results from my first day shooting with my new camera at the Fort http://www.flickr.com/photos/douglascook/sets/72157600396740300/ but slightly less enamoured about the lack of light I thought a speedlight would be in order. As is the case in most purchases I make, a cheap speedlight turns into an expensive speedlight which then turns into some radio triggers to do the whole shebang properly. I know the mutts nuts cost a lot more but £116 on these bad boys did make me sweat a little, seeing as this is supposedly a secondary hobby to riding bikes.
Like it or not, and it perhaps isnt the future but I love it when people do something different and do it properly. Will be interested to see how Alex goes on it at Mont St Anne this weekend. Personally I love my 29er though I am not convinced it would be the best choice for downhill!!
