So who was there?

The UK contingent were Lance McDermott, Grant and Ollie Fielder, Chris Smith and Danielle (Ollie’s bird) who kindly loaned me OK and Heat mag so I could catch up on the goss. Many Thanks luv…Mail if you want Fielder and Co to build you any ramps…!

British Diggers, best Engineers in the land

A select few spectators, maybe only 30 or so, along with several of the Worlds leading media houses. Didn't see anyone there from Southern downhill though??

A good hour went down and the trails were sessioned and lines were learned.. Everyone struggled by either over jumping or coming up short.. Notables were Brian Lopes who styled it race like and even threw in a 360 over the last set. Carter Holland - Black Market Bikes is smooth and surprised me with a few pinned back flips from the old man!

Someone went to the local pizza joint and we feasted US style, what a welcome treat I’ll tell you.. Again many thanks Mr Cowan!

The top US riders were all there and the ones that made the final cut and impressed (well all of them), were:

Strait | McCaul | Bass | Cowan

Carlo Diekman, Joshua Forsteuter and..

Kyle Strait
Tried but never managed to land a double tail whip.
His whips were insane along with his laughs as he floated through the air..

Cameron McCaul
Huge Superman airs and a great choice of lines… along with the coolest sticker ever that now sits on my laptop!

John Cowan
Super stretched superman as well as tried the tunnel line, how dodgy. Just make sure you duck on landing.

Paul Bass
Kona Clump man (twice winner of Crankworx) does the 720 in NWD6. Did a flip bar spin for the crack of it.

Timo Pringle - sorry Pritzel
Tried the largest transfer ever that would have made the Chelsea FC agent sh1t themselves

Greg Watts
Won best trick and $500 for his troubles with a flip whip on the big last set impressed everyone.

Lance and Grant (Chopper) from the UK also made the last top 10... Choppers 360's were nailed as were his tail whips over the last set. Lance was OnFire and was the 1st to flip the big 2nd to last set followed by a tail whip on the last ones with extra bonus points going on at the 1/4 pipe with either the highest airs or a flair!!

Mr & Mrs J Cowan & Family

Fookin’ Hell! Both guys lost out by only using one line which the judges penalised against. That says also remember these guys were riding 26" for the 1st time in ages.

The rule here this year was 26" only as the Americans don't rate 24" on MTB’s. Or was it because Chopper won it last year and took the cash?

As the day rolled on along with the Californian heat we sat back and watched all of the above. This was no X Games circus, this was like a session down your local trails. Everyone was so friendly and made you feel welcome. There was no rivalry, everyone encouraged each other to make that trick or that lip.

As always the jumps may not look as big or as steep as they were. Trust me when I say they were all big.

Good to see Fabien have a spin through the sets, no big tricks but made it through them at least.. I'm sure I have a pic of him jumping with his eyes closed!

Kyle Strait
Carter Holland's elbow
Cameron McCaul
Lance Flair on the quarter!
Brian Lopes

In all you just couldn't get better. There next year, I sure hope so!

So who bought the sh1t watered down US beer that night?

1st Cameron McCaul
2nd Paul Bass
3rd Kyle Strait

Best Trick Gregg Watts!

Kona and Marzocchi had put in a grand total of $7,500 dollars into this comp, so a big thanks to those boys supporting the real cause. Break that down as follows..

1st - $2,600
2nd - $1,500
3rd - $900
4th - £600
5th - $400
6-10th - $200 each.

Many thanks again to Russ and Fabien, top blokes. Just to tease you for later…I blackmailed Fabien and only got him to give me his signed World Champ top! Win it here on Descent-World in the next few weeks!!
