Who are we?

Just in case you don't know who we are then let me enlighten you...

jon_e beckett (owner/editor/head honcho)

Why jon_e?

It's a long story, something to do with Luc-e (the BMXer) and Will Smyth (Editor Dig Magazine) and it just kinda stuck. It's pronounced "jonnie" not "jon E" as some people insist on doing. After moving to Scotland in 1996, he started all this back then, a way of displaying his photos of Scottish Downhilling to the world via the internet.

Having raced BMX since 1979 and DH now for over 12 years he was a little fed up with the lack of Scottish action in the mainstream mtb press, he then decided to start doing repos and results for the Scottish DH series.

In the year 2000 things started getting a little hectic....the web site was getting busier and busier and the Scottish scene was taking off, it was decided to go big. Cover the world or as much as we possibly could, but still have a wee Scottish flavour about it.

Since then the site has grown steadily and with a very active forum (well over 6000 members) and with 6,937,590 pages served in Aug 05, descent-world is now branching out into some new areas, where next? We don't know...but you can be assured you'll hear it first here!

Si Paton " Superfly "
(assistant editor/product tester/team manager)

An integral part of the Descent-World infrastructure since day one, Si works 24/7 on in-depth product testing, race reports, managing the Descent-World Team and running his newest venture, retail outlet Descent-Gear Ltd.

When he's not on track he's either taking photos, commentating, liberating you of your hard earned cash or chatting to everyone.

Si started racing BMX in 1982 and still pops up at least one National every year onboard his 24" cruiser.

From 1987 to the present day he skates Vert, Street and Mini-Ramps under the name "Jester" in and around Birmingham, England .

During the summer months he clocks up plenty of "airmiles" onboard his Arrow race bike, hitting the trails 3x times a week and is well known for his digging and sculpturing of many legendary trail spots such as the "Spinny, Pieces and Halesowen".

Si's always been quick, coming from the council flats in Smethwick (One of Birminghams roughest areas) you had to be fast on your feet or bike. If not you lost em! "They were the 80's, times were hard, I still keep my money in my sock on the way to Town" he'll tell you..

Si competes Nationally in both DH and 4x all year round and has had some great podium results again in 2004:- English DH Champs Final - 1st Welsh DH National Champs 2nd Midland DH Champs - 2nd National 4x Champs - 3rd British Cycling Overall DH 3rd

One word of warning.. Don't buy him a drink, anyone at Interbike in Vegas will vouch for that one..

If you need to contact Si, look for him under the Maxxis E-Zee Up or try his email but guaranteed, he won't be in..

If you need to contact Si, try his email but don't expect him to be in!

Fraser Waters (Back end administrator)

New Dad, Fraser is our back room boy (so to speak), he sorts out our back ends when they need tidying up. Having stopped racing DH a few years back, he's still riding as hard as ever on his Santa Cruz Hecler, ripping up the 7 Stanes... Maybe he'll get a DH bike again soon...

Our other main contributors include:

Craig Henry - Long time SDA regular, based in Edinburgh he loves riding the lastest and rarest machines he can get his hands on...from the sublime to the bizrre, you can bet Craig has cocked his leg over it so to speak!

Ian Linton - A man of many talents, of course non that we have seen yet except for his photography. Ian is the man when it comes to race photos, see him at every race with his 1D cocked and ready...and then browse them all at www.ianlinton.com.

Douglas Cook - Bike Shop manager by day, Descent-World fountain of all knowledge by night. Doug's always hot on the trail when it comes to interviews of the fastest folk on 2 wheels...some of dw's best interviews are his work!

Jonathan Carr - aka Our man in Japan, JC always seems to have his fingers in all the sushi pies, you can bet he's seen or heard something weeks beforeanybody else, he doesn't keep it all to himself though...share and share alike...but it'll be on the forum first!

Alan Milway - Fitnes Guru and Morzine Whore. Running his own Chalet in Morzine these past few years, Alan is well connected out in da Alps..if he's not riding with Orange's Steve Wade he's ripping down the trails on his mobile via bluetooth arrange Moto Crosser's personnel training. A talented rider and damn nice guy...catch his article every now and again!

Victor Lucas - Irelands best MTB pphotographer...been there seen that...dirt magazine use him as well...but we've known him longer ;p. Always a good laugh on a roadtrip, just don't let him drink Guinness!

Huw Davies - Huw's been helping us with photos for years now, I hope Si has been flowing him plenty of that descent-gear! Huw staple is the Midlands and Dragons...again a rider himself...you can tell by the way his pictures turn out he has the eye!

Nigel Elder - One old school BMXer from way back, Nigel's riding has been taking a back seat as he establishes himself as a phographer. Expect to seen more from Nigel in the coming months as his onslaught on the Irush DH scene brings more repo's to dw.
