In possibly the most wild week the world cup circuit has seen in years, it seems fitting that America should provide a wild west gun shoot-out track here in Windham.
And boy oh boy the riding has been on a level that escalated quickly.
As early morning, tentative runs were put to bed, the riders started to show the intensity required to even qualify on this track where top 80 boys were separated by only ten seconds in 2014.
To put that into perspective, as the winner crosses the line, the rider who finishes 80th would be able to see him crossing the line from about 3 corners back.
Over the last few years the track has been tweaked a little and while these did cause some concerns yesterday, once the boys and girls got out on track it was throttle open, flat out action.
Tommy and Zach, the #onearmedbandit and #mtbjesus, bring you the low down.
Board 31 in the women's field. Can you guess who it is? Multiple world cup wins, a well documented life and one hell of a character. Missy Giove is alive and kicking. @tommyawilkinson
Remy Morton across the first fire road, a short way from the start line, and about to drop into the real stuff. The young Aussie, known as #socialremy, has steadily been improving all year. @tommyawilkinson
Atherton, R. Winning timed training by 18 seconds, it would seem that Rachel, now halfway to matching Anne Caroline Chaussons record amount of WC wins, is comfortably up to speed already. @tommyawilkinson
Putting in the time and effort in a big way for 2015, American new-comer, Max Morgan, was loving the "home town track". Windham would certainly make for a great place to have a new "best result". @zachfaulkner
Manon Carpenter took a second at MSA, showing huge strides from her early season form. She took a few tumbles today but still looked a more confident version of herself. @tommyawilkinson
American ripper, Shawn Neer, was assaulting Windham today with some wild aggression. He slashed this corner hard every run down, doing his best to coat the squids behind the rock in a fresh layer of red dust. @zachfaulkner
The Junior Men have a lot of contenders, and today Max Warshawsky was showing why he's on that list and has been all season. @zachfaulkner
Back to form after an early-season injury, Myriam Nicole stomped into 3rd last weekend in MSA, and is on a charge here in Windham. @zachfaulkner
Loic Bruni on a tear from the word go. He's after that .200th of a second....@tommyawilkinson
Harry Heath is quietly moving up the ranks. Board 22 represents a solid statement of intent from the manchester lad and being on team with Blinky seems to be helping him greatly. @tommyawilkinson
Don't forget, The Rat Is Baaaaack! Casually cruising is deceptively fast. Josh Bryceland is a wild card this weekend after his win a week ago at MSA, and thoroughly cleaning house here last year. Can he make it two years running? @zachfaulkner
He's been winning practice all year long, so it's only a matter of time until Marcelo Gutierrez finds himself on the box - perhaps even at the very top. @zachfaulkner
Steady and strong all day long, Casey Brown was visibly enjoying her day. @zachfaulkner
Alanna Columb is the Kiwi Women's National Champion, and her pace on track today was backing that up. @zachfaulkner
Huh ! There isn't any gap, anywhere in the world, that is safe from George Branningan. Another rider who hasn't quite converted sheer speed into placings, he seems to be revelling in the Windham conditions. @tommyawilkinson
Here Kerr is seen taking his variation of Hart's Huck, where he is going much farther to rider's right than anyone else. @zachfaulkner
Bernard Kerr won practice today with innovative lines and some serious commitment, going huge everywhere. @zachfaulkner
The new Boost feature on George Brannigan's bike isn't some new marketing hype, it's the real deal. @zachfaulkner
Savage. Sam Bull took a heavy slam today. Thankfully, he literally walked it off and just needed to take five to sort himself out. @zachfaulkner
Jackson Frew through some serious shapes in practice today. @zachfaulkner
Stevie Smith hasn't had the best run, but has shown speed. Don't rule him out, ever. @tommyawilkinson
You what mate? Most people are hanging on for dear life but Brendog doesn't do that. He comes in faster, pulls a drift then powers out. @tommyawilkinson
This is what "race-y" looks like, and no one better to demonstrate than Wyn Masters. @zachfaulkner
Eyes ahead, suspension near the limit, and dust trailing behind; Matt Walker is looking properly quick here in the Catskills.
Gee Atherton has some things to prove. His speed is serious but his results aren't what he would like. He has been intensely fast today. @tommyawilkinson
This is how Mongo feels about 'MERICAN liability "rules". After 4 years of snagging bangers from this perch, he was finally asked to return to the plain of plebeians on terra firma. @zachfaulkner
It's a rule now here at DW: Get a good one of Coulanges, and run it. Done and Done. @zachfaulkner
When you ask a rider to, "...do something cool on that hump..." and this is what you get, you almost want to call it a day, because it's just too good; Isak Leivsson is the man. @zachfaulkner
Matt Simmonds going yolo with the tint and dust trails. This is track for the big boys and Simmonds fits the bill. @tommyawilkinson
The day was a blur, with riders hitting Ludicrous Speed everywhere on course. Crimmins does his best Dark Helmet impression heading into the road gap.
Bruni , elbows out through " big whoops " and doubling up anything with, or without a lip. @tommyawilkinson
Danny Hart, pioneer of the " Hart Huck " seen earlier has been quietly building today. Stealth bombing. @tommyawilkinson
Neil Stewart seems to have found another gear and has turned his riding up a notch this week. @zachfaulkner
Dean Lucas. Gloves off, flat out and leading the Devinci charge. @tommyawilkinson
Laurie Greenland is on a roll. Momentum is his friend coming into this round and what a battle we expect between him and Andrew Crimmins. @tommyawilkinson
We told you he was on a mission. @tommyawilkinson
The man who the crowds here flock to see. As ever, the professor was analysing all day - he knows every tenth, hundredth and thousandth counts. @tommyawilkinson
Phil Atwil is looking comfortable and loose here in Windham. @zachfaulkner
Ruaridh Cunningham makes a break free from Mad Max and uses his Scottish roots to feel at home amongst the dust. Ahem. @tommyawilkinson
It's not all hard work. Andrew Neethling enjoying his birthday with a pancake cake and a few beers. Happy Birthday!
Let's see what tomorrow brings!
