Sunwise Chromafusion “Hastings”
A few months ago an email dropped into my inbox and the words “British made” caught my eye. It was from a British sunglass manufacture called Sunwise. So curiosity got the better of me so I clicked the link and had a gander at what they had to offer. Some pretty decent looking stuff I thought and the Hastings model caught my eye.
I pinged an email back to Zoe and she kindly popped a pair of the glasses in the post for me to try, hopefully perfect for cycling/mountain biking. I do like a lens shape with one-piece glass and lack of frame to get in the way of sight. They feel light and comfortable and lens shape should give good protection from mud and flies etc. The feature that drew my attention most to these was the Chromafusion light reacting technology, now that would be great for riding from bright to dark area’s. The changing light conditions of riding trails here would be a good test for this.
During the last few months I’ve worn the Hastings for general day to day use as well as cycling and driving. These have now become my sunglasses of choice as light sensitive lenses have proved to be perfect for the changeable light conditions. I’m not going to lie here – coming from the bright light up on Priesthope hill down into the tree line above the Golfy here at Innerleithen – the light reactive lenses didn’t react quick enough, but anybody that rides those trails will tell you neither does your eyes. General riding they are spot on and the other thing that has impressed me greatly is the Anti-fog technology, I’ve tried so many different glasses and they all fog up to some degree. These however really didn’t fog up to any extent that bothered me visually – still don’t know how that works but top marks for that one, witchcraft springs to mind.
Priced at £94.99 it’s pretty hard to find comparable glasses with such a high spec and features for your hard earned cash. The most appealing thing to me is that Sunwise are a British company and to produce a product at a good price is well worth supporting.
