Schwable UK 4x Rd 2 | Preview

Sunday, May 17th, sees round 2 of the 2015 Schwalbe British 4X Series take place at Afan in South Wales.

The Phil Saxena designed 4X track, is one of the best tracks ever seen in the UK, with a massive rock section, corkscrew bridge and pro line that has double jumps over 35 feet long! Lines for beginners and Elites are catered for which makes this track so good for everyone. Racing is always close, passing is frequent and races are never normally decided until the finish line. The track really showcases 4X and after a great start to the series in Harthill 3 weeks ago, the British 4X team are excited for Round 2 in Afan.

Britain’s top riders will be there, battling it out to see who will take round 2 of the 5 round series. Duncan Ferris was on it at round 1 and will again be looking for another final win in Afan. Duncan has been in charge of the track modifications at Afan recently, so he knows Afan track really well. Luke Cryer was flying at round one and a mistake in the final cost him dearly. He will be looking to make up for it at Afan. James Whitby had an amazing start to his 2015 season after moving into Elites for the first time this year he finished a fantastic 3rd at the opening round. Nathan Parsons, Dave Richardson, Alex Metcalfe and Will Evans will all be looking for better results a Afan to get their 2015 campaigns back on track. Lewis Lacey will also be starting his 2015 campaign at Afan and will be sure to be on pace.

Reigning British 4X Series Champion Scott Beaumont is still recovering from a serious shoulder/back injury and only time will tell if he will make it back to the start gate for round 2.

In the women’s, numbers continue to grow and interest for women’s 4X racing is at an all time high. Heather Kay will be the favourite after taking the win at round 1. Heather looked fast and consistent all day at Harthill and with her focus being on 4X this year, she will be going for 2 wins from 2 races in Afan. Liz Fowler had a crash at Harthill and will undoubtedly be gunning for the win in Afan. Tyde D’Souza had one of the standout performances at Harthill a few weeks ago. The teenager took a strong 2nd position after actually leading the final for a short time at Harthill. Without doubt she will be battling again in Afan. Megan Wherry, Claire Curtis and all the other women will be fighting to make the final and get their hands on valuable series points.
