Scotland’s Secret Superstar: New Rock&Road Fest Cranks It Up

From the 9th – 11th May a new bike festival is sure to get pedals turning, dirt flying and craic flowing. Rock&Road bike festival, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, brings a feast of bike events for mountain bikers, roadies, novices and families alike.

The striking glens, flowing trails and winding roads of Tomintoul and Glenlivet are what cycling dreams are made of. Rock&Road celebrates the amazing cycling on offer locally from off-road trails, man-made single track, downhill descents and breathtaking (literally) road ascents.

With a sportive, sprint and mountain bike race for the adventurous, there’s also a packed programme of free demos, guided rides and workshops for all ages – so whether your weaponry is a trike or hardtail bike, you’re going to love this – not to mention the awesome music, stunts, stalls, films and food!

Be part of the inaugural Smugglers Soiree, an 80 km route that is set to challenge the brave, wipe the smiles off the mighty, and lure the foolhardy. An awe-inspiring race following in the footsteps of Whisky Smugglers and Excisemen, this route, in the hidden depths of Glenlivet, has a vivid and wild past where many illicit activities were kept far out of sight…

The scenery may be serene but the terrain is not.  With a mix of off road moorland tracks, forestry routes, single-track trails and country roads, this challenge has something to offer everyone. Enjoy ‘The brave’ 54 km or ‘The mighty’ 80 km route on a MTB, cycle-cross or hybrid. If a skinny tyre is your weaponry of choice the 110 and 146 km sportive will float your boat!  Starting and finishing in the village of Tomintoul, being named the ‘Highest village in the Highlands’ may give a taste for what’s to come as you start and finish with two timed hill climbs. This route has bucket loads of personality with a true highland welcome of quiet winding country roads through country villages and heather moorland.

For those of you who enjoy pushing your body and bike to the limits, this sportive has it all. With the areas unrivalled hill climbs it is set to become a quick classic.  With two timed ascents at the Lecht and Bridge of Brown for the Elite, this sportive has personality in abundance!

Entries for both events open on Friday 7th March at 9am, the first 50 entrants to the Smugglers Soiree will receive a £10 discount.
