Innerleithen Winter DH Enduro
Innerleithen MTB riders along with I-Cycles kicked of the winter racing here at Innerleithen with an Enduro DH event which went down a storm with the entrants. Many riders commenting that it was the best event they had competed in, and to cap that the best run event. Praise indeed but the format was relaxed and friendly the tracks were a mix of everything the hill at Inners can throw at you without being to extreme.
Riders set out early Sunday morning to ride to the top of the downhill trails (start hut) From there the first timed run was to get down a trail that starts just along the hill from the Matador start, it joins that trail briefly then heads of to the right down over some really good natural rocky/rooty sections over the road then down a fast open section into a muddy wet corner through the old wall then down to join the XC trail a few hundred mtrs before the quarry and that was run 1. After this you had to ride back up to the start hut for your 2nd run
The 2nd trail was probably the hardest one, first part was fairly flat and pedally through the heather into some soft going before descending down the back of Plora Craig towards the XC trail, rather than use the new red route it went down over the rock garden then of to the right down the old classic track finishing down on the start of the uplift road. From there you had to cycle back to the top of the hill for you final run.
The last one was mix of the easier downhill trails. The top part brought you down the right hand side of the quarry then into the gold run, some new sections mixed with some old brought you out onto the middle fire road, quick sprint along to the right and then down into the deer hunter. The mine field was brought into play taking you down to the old motorway, instead of going down into the arena you turned right and peddled up the bridelway to join the bottom half of the Cresta run, job done.
Over all winner and fastest time of the day went to Gary Forrest riding his new Orange 5 supplied by I-Cycles Steve Deas, 2nd place went to John Young who’s deserves a shout as he done the event on his DH rig with 3rd place going to I-Cycles rider Stuart Nicholson
Big shout out to Innerleithen MTB racing and Steve from I-Cycles for putting on a great event, looking forward to next one which will be a mini push up DH race on February 13th.
