SKINS C400 Men’s Compression Bib Shorts

Mid ‘first’ week of the 2010 Tour de France and it’s been a feast of ripped Lycra as the top roadies in the world, slide backwards into the hedge, topped with road rash a plenty. That’s one of the reasons that Lycra was a complete “Marmite” thing with downhiller’s. We simply didn’t trust it to protect us as we slid through the tundra.

Bib shorts - not just for roadies

That’s not to say that the sport hasn’t seen it’s fair share of Lycra. In fact some still crave the feel of it on their skin…or so I’ve heard, well at least that’s what Rob Warner told me!!

So what’s the point of all this then? Well as we all know our butts get sore when we ride…some more than others…and since the advent of some form of chamois padding, other than a fresh (or maybe not so fresh) piece of fillet steak, rammed down the crotch of your shorts. The modern day cycling short is the way to avoid those nasty little saddle sores and chaffs. I have no doubt that under most downhiller’s race kit is a pair of good shorts…maybe we should check at the next world cup?

Here though, we have the latest offering from Skins, you know the guys who do all those compression garments to help you flush all that lactic acid away from your weary muscles after a hard day. With last years success of their cycling line the latest kit is yet another improvement, taking the humble cycling short to another level.

Last year we showed you their very first cycling short and this is the newest addition to the bike range. Gone is the yellow against black stitching and what replaces it is a more classic look of short, maybe now it’s aimed at the more image conscious “Rapha’ types. The leg grippers are gone, replaced with a smooth [type of grip] which holds the short perfectly under your chosen garment…be it jeans or some race pants/shorts.

These have been exclusively worn during all my riding over the past few weeks, albeit under the usual baggies at trail centres and some local downhill trails. Comfort wise the padding, an Elastic Interface® Technology chamois; combined with a good cream, the comfort factor on long 3 hour trail centre rides is excellent. The wicking of sweat over the last few weeks has been a God send as after some hot and humid rides, I was still felling almost as fresh as when I started. With the taped and bonded seams, as well soft-feel engineered mesh bib works very well at keeping you feeling dry. A definite bonus on the way home in the car.

At around the £149 mark, they certainly ain’t cheap but the quality is most certainly there and if you value your crown jewels as much as I do then these are a great package to wrap them up in whilst riding.

Look out for other Skins product features coming soon.

SKINS C400 men’s compression bib shorts are more than a cushion for your bum.

SKINS C400 is the only high performance range to use in-motion measurement to define the correct level of compression needed during activity. This improves circulation, getting more oxygen-rich blood to your muscles and reducing lactic acid build-up.
Based on 400 key fitting points, items in the SKINS C400 range are cut for on-bike comfort and improved core body control and power, as well as less post-exercise muscle soreness.

C400 bib shorts feature the Elastic Interface® Technology Multi-D Anatomic Carbonium chamois. This expands and contracts with every pedal stroke, following your motion and eliminating friction. High-density foam helps relieve pressure in the perineal area for maximum comfort, without compromising on breath-ability.

So you’ll have more power and comfort as you take your legs to their limits.

Technology

400fit
A super comfortable fit, more precise, targeted Dynamic Gradient Compression and a greater range of leg lengths for men and different body shapes for women

50+ UV Protection
SKINS was born in Australia, so we know a thing or two about exerting ourselves in the sun. Our fabrics have a UV protection of 50+, which means you can get out and train harder without worrying about the sun related risks.

C400 Chamois
The Multi-D Anatomic Carbonium’s unique anatomically curved shape perfectly fits the area where your bum meets the saddle, eliminating friction as you pedal, while allowing maximum breathability

Dynamic Gradient Compression
Increases oxygen delivery to active muscles while in motion and reduces lactic-acid build-up for more power and less recovery time

Moisture Management
Keeping you dry through advanced wicking is inherent in all SKINS fabrics – moisture is drawn away from your skin, so you stay dry and comfortable

Muscle Focus
Uniquely wrapping and supporting your key muscle groups to reduce movement and focus direction for less vibration in your muscles, less soft tissue damage and less soreness after exercise

Odour, Stink, Pong, Smell, Stench Free
Permanent antimicrobial treatment discourages bacteria by ionically absorbing the odour causing substances normally associated with Lycra wear. These features are built into all our fabrics, so they can’t ever be washed out.

Warp Knit
The fabric in SKINS is warp knitted using multiple fine quality yarns to give superior performance – Warp knit fabrics have no natural stretch – instead, the spandex mix ensures specific levels of elasticity and perfectly controlled compression

Cycle Pro Men’s Chamois

Engineered in Italy – home to the Giro d’Italia and other thigh burning events – the Elastic Interface® Technology cycle pro men’s Multi-DM chamois is the result of rigorous wear testing by a panel of experts, which means:

* multiple foam densities for the ultimate comfort
* freedom of movement in the saddle
* protection for sensitive areas of the male anatomy
* optimum breath-ability to transport moisture

So you’ll be able to ride hard all day without getting a sore bum.
