SDA DH Rd 1, Pitfichie

The weekend of the 24th – 25th of April saw the first round of the 2010 Scottish Downhill Association race at Pitfichie, North of the Granite City, Aberdeen. The track lives up to the name of the nearby city, with the majority of the track made from slabs of Granite.

The track was mostly the same layout as previous years with some minor additional sections added for some variation, which by the end of practise had worn in nicely.

Wet weather on the Saturday, made the course wet and slippy causing a number of crashes with the riders trying their best to negotiate between the wet roots and off camber sections.

The rain mostly stopped for race day with a few showers durning the first race runs but by the second runs the course had started to dry out.

The Juveniles saw Sam Herd take the win, followed by Innes Graham and Drew Carters.

While in the youth, Joe Connell took the win, with Ross Willcox in 2nd and Greg Gillian in 3rd.

Juniors had Willem Herd in 1st, Andrew Kelly in 2nd and Allan Findlay in 3rd Place.

David Tallontire won Masters, followed by Christopher Whitfield and Jethro Whitfield.

Vets was won by Neil Willson, eKm Avis 2nd place and Kenny Denoon in 3rd.

The women category was won by bex Reilly, Angela Coates came in 2nd and Emma Atkinson in 3rd.

Ben Hall went on to win the Expert category with a time of 02:40.396 followed by David Dudgeon and local rider Tom Lamb.

There was only four riders in the Elite category with Ben Cathro taking the win over Fergus Lamb and Joe Barnes. Cathro had the fastest time of the day at 02:32.928

The closest results have to go to the senior category with the top 3 riders, Joe Flanagan, Douglas Chalmers and Grant Garden all coming within four hundredths of a second each other.

Round 2 of the 2010 SDA series will be held on the weekend of the 15th – 16th May at Glencoe.
