Geoff Waugh – He’s a rite Ol’Bastard!

Geoff Waugh and his trusty Holga
I first met Geoff back in the early nineties, he used to race downhill then; mounted on one of the first Foes Racing frames in the UK, he could pin it with the best of them.
Then somehow he got all mixed up with this whole damn press circus thing, then he won a few awards, almost fell out the back of a C130 shooting paratroopers and now he’s started to relive his past. Must be his mid life crisis..
What do I mean?
Well, Geoff has been delving into his archives and considering it’s probably one of the oldest and biggest archives of World Cup and World Championship racing outside of Mark Dawsons basement in San Francisco, it’s so worth a look, albeit to relive some of the old days or simply to see how far the sport has come on, just don’t giggle at some of the race kit!

It’s when you realise that most of these images were in fact shot on film (Provia pushed 2 stops, maybe), that you start to understand how all the photography had to be done back then when the internet and DSLR’s weren’t the mainstream. Workflow!! How things change, eh?
So pay attention, sit up and take note…we give you one of the UK’s best international downhill archives.
Amazing! I totally remember loads of the photos when they appeared in Dirt and that, love it. ’96-’98 I was totally immersed in DH, brings back so many memories! Although some seriously dodgy looking kit back then… apart from anything worn and used by Shaun Palmer!
